If you're not up on the latest fashion, if you're not wearing "someone" - you get treated differently than those who are.
Of course, sometimes you're treated with respect, envy and admiration - sometimes you're ignored completely.

So true, I remember in grade school being ashamed of my dollar store sneakers. These days, I wouldn't spend the money on designer duds even if I won the lotto. I value individuality way over following a trend, and I respect those who are not afraid to showcase their own personalities.
